Engineered hardwood done right

Engineered hardwood is real wood on top of a dimensionally stable plywood core. It looks identical to solid hardwood underfoot but won't cup, gap, or buckle when humidity shifts. That makes it the right pick for the slab-on-grade homes so common in Edmond, Moore, Yukon, and Mustang — plus below-grade rooms, kitchens, and any room with radiant heating.

The Soto Bros crew stocks engineered hardwood from Lauzon, Mirage, Mercier, Kahrs, Coswick, Shaw, and Armstrong — the same brands designers specify on luxury builds. Same product, honest price, Orange Glove Standard on the install.

Why homeowners choose engineered

Engineered hardwood gives you most of the benefits of solid wood with none of the climate sensitivity.

  • Stable on concrete slabs and over radiant heat
  • Available in wider planks (up to 9") that solid wood can't deliver
  • Pre-finished from the factory with aluminum-oxide topcoats
  • Floating, glue-down, or nail-down installation — whatever your subfloor needs
  • Refinishable once or twice depending on wear-layer thickness

Species, widths, and finishes

Most engineered hardwood is made from European or American oak, but you can also get maple, walnut, hickory, and exotic species. Plank widths run from a classic 3" up to designer 9"-wide boards. Finishes range from clear matte to wire-brushed, hand-scraped, fumed, and reactive-stained European looks — similar staining options to what you'd choose for [solid hardwood](/real-solid-hardwood-flooring) or a set of matching [hardwood stairs](/hardwood-stairs).

Professional installation

Our installers assess your subfloor first — moisture testing on concrete, joist inspection on plywood, flatness gauges everywhere. We then recommend floating, glue-down, or nail-down based on what will perform best. Every quote includes baseboard removal/reinstall, transitions to adjacent rooms, and full disposal of your existing floor. Book a [free estimate](/free-estimate) and we'll walk your subfloor before we ever quote a product. Backed by the Soto Bros Promise.

Engineered Hardwood - frequently asked questions

Yes — if the wear layer is 3mm or thicker, it can be sanded and refinished once or twice through our [hardwood refinishing](/hardwood-refinishing) service. Thinner wear layers (1–2mm) should be screened and recoated rather than fully sanded.

Water-resistant, not waterproof. It tolerates the occasional spill far better than solid wood, but standing water from a dishwasher leak or burst pipe should still be cleaned up promptly. If a wet room needs a fully waterproof floor, ask us about [luxury vinyl plank](/luxury-vinyl-plank) instead.

Yes — this is one of engineered hardwood's biggest advantages. We follow manufacturer guidelines on subfloor temperature and acclimation to prevent gapping.

Floating is faster and easier to repair. Glue-down feels more solid underfoot and is quieter. Over the concrete slabs common in newer Greater Oklahoma City construction we typically recommend glue-down; over plywood in an older home, either works.
