Real hardwood, installed by real craftsmen
Solid hardwood is a real commitment — it belongs on wood subfloors, which makes it the natural fit for older homes closer to the urban core rather than newer slab-built subdivisions further out. The Soto Bros crew will tell you honestly whether solid hardwood is right for your specific subfloor, or whether [engineered hardwood](/engineered-hardwood) will serve you better. That kind of straight answer is part of the Orange Glove Standard — we'd rather lose the upsell than sell you a floor that fights your foundation.

Solid hardwood — every species, every finish
We sell and install solid hardwood in every species, grain, and finish, and we buy factory-direct in volume so our prices stay competitive with the big-box stores without the big-box quality trade-off. We carry Lauzon, Appalachian, Armstrong, Mirage, Aacer, Somerset, Vintage, Coswick, Sheoga, Mercier, Kahrs, Bruce, Owens, LM, Anderson, and custom-milled floors. We can also stain and finish unfinished solid wood into any color you want, matched on-site so it fits your actual room's light.

Our W-2 installers handle nail-down and glue-down solid hardwood over plywood or particleboard — never straight to a concrete slab, since our clay soil moves enough over the years to eventually telegraph through a rigid floor. Layouts run from classic straight, random, and diagonal to chevron, herringbone, basket weave, and custom medallions. Every project follows NWFA standards, and custom pattern requests are always welcome.

Solid wood stairs
Solid wood stairs are a different level of craftsmanship than a solid wood floor — the staircase is the first thing guests see, and there's no carpet to hide an imperfect cut. Where [carpet stairs](/carpet-stairs) are the budget option, solid hardwood stairs are the high end, with most of the cost in skilled labor. We handle custom square nosings, floating stairs, open-style staircases, and site-finished treads — all built to match the [hardwood floor](/hardwood-flooring) or [hardwood stairs](/hardwood-stairs) work happening elsewhere in the house.

Real & Solid Hardwood Flooring - frequently asked questions
Properly installed solid hardwood lasts 50–100+ years. It can be sanded and refinished 6–10 times, so it routinely outlives the homeowner and adds long-term resale value.
Not directly — solid hardwood is nailed into a wood subfloor. Over a slab (what most newer Greater Oklahoma City construction is built on), we install plywood first or recommend [engineered hardwood](/engineered-hardwood), which is dimensionally stable and glue-down friendly.
Prefinished planks arrive sealed at the factory (faster install, micro-bevels between boards). Site-finished is sanded and coated in your home for a perfectly flat, custom-color floor.
Solid hardwood reacts to moisture and temperature swings — and our humid summers followed by dry winter cold fronts make that swing bigger than in milder climates — so we generally recommend engineered hardwood over radiant heat. If you want solid wood, we'll specify narrow widths and rift-and-quartered cuts to minimize movement.
